Summer of Socks

This has been the summer of socks having completed FIVE pair in these past couple of months!

I have been knitting socks for over 25 years so that is nothing new, but it is the first time so many came off the needles in such a short period of time.

Three of them were an experiment using a new heel for me, the  OMG heel  by Megan Williams of the Stockinette Zombies podcast.  The two on the bottom left are this heel knit top-down with a short cuff.  The third short cuff pair were knit toe-up using Megan's Spacious OMG Heel pattern.  This yarn was purchased several years ago at the Northern Nights Yarn Shop in Norwich Vermont.  It is Plymouth's discontinued Sockotta which is a blend of superwash wool, cotton, and nylon.

In the photo at left, the bottom pair are the Groovy Socks knit in Blue Moon Fiber's Socks That Rock in the Samhain color way - love these and can't wait to wear them this fall.

Next up from the bottom are the Diamonds in the Fluff pattern knit in A Hundred Ravens Iachos yarn in a special colorway called Nelsons Five and Dime created for my local yarn shop, Twill, in Nashua, NH.  This is the first installment of Twill's sock club and the color name is derived from dime store (ha ha - those were the days) which was housed in the building that the yarn shop currently resides

In addition to the sock mania, also completed was a linen/silk top called Mia knit in Shibui Twig.

I spent two weeks working on some secret knitting for one of my favorite designers, Norah Gaughan.  Norah is working on a new book and I can't wait to see what her new beautiful creations look like.

This year I was thrilled to attend SSK - Super Summer Knit Together -- in Nashville in July.  This retreat is held by the Knit Girllls and was fantastic.  I met some wonderful people, did a lot of knitting, and took two great classes by Sarah Anderson and Mary Jane Mucklestone.  I hope to be able to return again.

On the Needles?

Why, socks of course!
